BlogCFC v5: The circle is now complete...

I'm happy to announce the immediate availability of BlogCFC 5.0. This has been a long time coming. In fact, the last release was January 22nd. So what has changed? Here is a short list:

  • New default look and feel.
  • Administrator (no more design mode)
  • CAPTCHA support
  • Auto-include images
  • RSS improvements
  • Related Entries support
  • Comment display improvements
  • SES improvements
  • Cowbell improvements
  • Preview support
  • Draft mode support
  • Send to a Friend
  • Lots of bug fixes

First and foremost, I want to thank Scott Stroz, Jeff Coughlin, and Charlie Griefer. Scott added the "Pure CSS" changes to the front end, and helped all around in general. JC and CG built thew Related Entries support from the ground up. Their wishlists are mentioned in the readme doc. If you have supported me before and want to do so again, I ask that you please support them first. Of course, I won't mind if you visit my list. ;)

I will continue to work on BlogCFC of course. The plans for 5.1 are Postgres and AJAX changed to Related Entries. My next area of focus though will be on CFLib and Soundings. (Yes, Next-N is coming in.) Oh, and I start a new job on Monday as well, so things may be a bit crazy. :)

As always, you can expect a few.... issues to crop up. You may want to monitor the BlogCFC web site and the Subversion repository.

Enjoy.

Edited: Um, so yea, a download URL or two may help. To download the zip, use this URL:

Thanks so much for the efforts, Ray (and the fellow contributors). I hope to apply the update ASAP and will get to that Amazon Wish List soon thereafter. :-)

Hey, for those reading of them for the first time (and to save some who would need to go look into it), can you (or anyone) explain what "cowbells" are about? :-) Did I miss this feature in my use of the last version?

Cowbell reference: A Saturday Night Live (SNL) Skit about the blue oyster cult.

The following link has a video clip of the skit.

If Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, then we should probably give hime more cowbell!

Sami, yes and no. The core CFC is here, but I'm not going to bother witch the CAPCHA support. I'll worry about it later.

Kris, thanks for sharing the cowbell faq.

The SNL video clip was too funny! Great for a Friday afternoon break. Thanks! :-)

Does it run on the old database? Will we be able to use that or what?
# Posted By John Farrar | 5/12/06 3:21 PM
John, please see the readme. It describes what you have to change.

OK... my sidebar is a footer level sidebar. Can anyone else verify this issue?

Ray,

Where do we find the 5.1 wish list of features taht we'd like to see added?
# Posted By Gary Funk | 5/14/06 12:35 PM
Go to my forums, blogcfc, and there is a new features forum.
# Posted By Raymond Camden | 5/14/06 9:15 PM
OK... has no one clicked to see if they are having a CSS issue when viewing my site. (I am using the default look that came with the blog, so this would be important.) I plan on updating but thought we ought to verify this issue first. Is anyone else having the same issue?
# Posted By John Farrar | 5/15/06 8:15 AM
John, I wasn't able to see it. Of course, I used FF.
# Posted By Raymond Camden | 5/15/06 8:24 AM
John, I did click through when I saw your posting and it looked fine to me (I use FF/Mac). Have you added ?reinit=1 to your url? My blog looked strange until I did that.
