AIR and Flex 3 Betas Launch Tonight

Adobe is on a roll lately. First a late night launch of ColdFusion 8, now we have new versions (and a new name!) of Adobe AIR (formally Apollo) and Flex 3.

Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) (I love this technology, but boy do I wish they had kept the old name. Right now it sounds as cool as TPS forms!)

Flex 3

If you haven't looked at either of these technologies yet, you are really missing out. Do yourself a favor and check them out now!

Comments

They should have called it Adobe Air in the beginning and called it Adobe Apollo. AIR = LAME. I'll still call it Apollo!

They also posted a beta update of Flash Player 9 which has some really interesting changes and improvements (1080p video? That would kind of take the wind out of Silverlight's sails... if it had any :))

On top of that, Apple's WWDC starts today, which means Leopard beta goodness! It's an exciting time to be a developer!

I know this is nitpicking, but I have to back up Gary on this one. When many of us were lobbying to keep the name Apollo, we were told we were going to get a "really cool" name. AIR doesn't quite make it.

Still, at least it's one syllable, which is more than can be said for WPF (5, I think!).

Cheers,

David

Yeah, the more I hear it - the more I don't like it.

-But- to be honest, I could care less. They could call ColdFusion "DogPoop" and I'd still use it every day (and love using it).

Hey, TPS Reports 11 beta just came out. They added color coding and support for comic sans. I wouldnt be so quick to jump on its uncoolness.

Hey, AIR is RIA backwards! I just realized that. I assume I'm the last person on the planet to do so. :)

@Ken: No, apparently that dubious honor belongs to me now.

Good thing I did a Google search to see if anyone else had realized the same thing before I rushed off to blog it as some sort of divine revelation. :)
