New month, new job. I've joined Broadchoice

I hinted around at it the last few days, but this morning I made it official. I've joined Broadchoice as the VP of Software Development. I've been working with them for a while now, and frankly, I've developed quite the geek crush on the company, both it's product and the developers. As you know, Sean Corfield joined a few months ago, and it is an honor to work with him (and the many other extremely talented folks there).

I've been solo for over a year now and I've enjoyed the freedom and the variety. But I just couldn't resist this offer. The more I worked on the product (see the site for more info) the more I wanted to work with Broadchoice in a fuller capacity, and now I have the privilege of doing so.

So - that's it. My big announcement. I'm pretty darn happy (ok, I'm giddy) and I hope folks understand why I made this move. If anyone has any questions about this, just let me know. Obviously I'm not going to stop blogging anytime soon (blog addiction - it's not a problem, it's a way of life) and I'll still be working on my open source projects. (Actually, my recent youtubecfc update was directly related to work I did for Broadchoice.)

Ok, now im curious - where did you work before? Do you work at home or is Broadchoice just located near you?

Anyway, congrats..seems like a cool company

Ray = playing GTA4 in LA

Broadchoice = Cali-fornia

That's one heck of a commute! Honestly though, assuming you'll be telecommuting, how often are you expected to be on site and not answering our questions oh Jedi Master?

Congrats Ray! Seems like a good match!

We're very excited to have Ray onboard. He's been doing sterling work on our applications already but having him as part of our core team is a huge bonus for Broadchoice!

Does this mean we'll be seeing a lot more of you in the Bay Area?

Awesome news Ray and what a fantastic oppourtunity.

You deserve this and it's obvious you'll be a great asset at the company.

Cool that you get to work from home as well.. Perfect really.

Sounds like it's given you a chance to learn some new technologies as well which is always good to boost the skill set and open the mind to different ideas.

@All - Thanks for the kind words!

@Nathan - I hope so. I love visiting 'Frisco'. :)

Nice site. I wish I had know about it earlier. A company that I'm working with just spent a ton a of money on SharePoint but what they really needed is something that your company has to offer.

Congrats Ray!!!

Congrats Ray!
Q: Where did you get those icons? I've been looking for a good stock icon library.
# Posted By Phillip Senn | 5/2/08 7:11 AM
@PS - for the Broadchoice app? If so I have no idea. They take my code, shudder, and then make it pretty. If you do mean BC, maybe you can send me a URL and I'll ask our designer if he used a commercial package or made them from scratch.
# Posted By Raymond Camden | 5/2/08 7:15 AM
Wow -- both you and Sean at the same company? Where can I buy some stock??
# Posted By Tony Garcia | 5/2/08 7:52 AM
Wow. How did Broadchoice get two 1st round draft picks!

Congrats Ray, and best of luck.

Congratulatoins Ray. The two best CF programmers at the same company. And people still say CF is dead. Go figure.

Welcome Ray, I am happy to be working with you as well. App skining FTW!

They are modified versions of icons from the iconshock library.

Oh wow!
Look at that!
THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!

Congratulations! I'm kinda scratching my head - just what does Broadchoice do? I'm looking at the website but I'm just not "getting it" at the moment.

Congratulations - from what I can tell it seems like a very cool company.

Have fun!

Well, congrats for you! Bad luck for me. I was just getting ready to inquire about hiring you for some unicorn herder consultant work!

Congratulations Ray!

Congrats Ray!

Just echoing Lola B here - What does the product do and who does it target? The features are pretty clear but without a larger context the purpose of the software/platform is pretty vague.

What you need is a big label on homepage saying: "Broadchoice is an Customer Relationship Management Extranet " (or whatever - if that is badly off it demonstrates my confusion!)

So maybe you could pass that on to the Website maintainer?

But congrats again. I honestly do not understand how you get the time to do all the things you do. Don't stop!

Some of my coworkers are on this thread here, so they will hear it. I'm looking forward to blogging soon about some of the technical aspects. I've encouraged Sean to do so as well as he has done some 'hot' stuff.

Some folks I've described it to have said "Oh, Facebook for business?" and that's probably a good meme but it goes beyond that. You can build and manage a website on the Broadchoice platform that includes applications such as blogs and forums and integration with YouTube, SlideShare, SalesForce.com etc.

Looking to the future, we'll be offering a developer SDK and the ability to integrate third-party external applications - such as CF developers might build and host on their own sites.

We're looking to change the way organizations manage their digital marketing.

Stay tuned!
