Calling want-to-be artists - Galleon Logo
Galleon 2 is rapidly approaching completion. This will be a major update and with this release I also want to add a new logo since - well - it isn't a proper web application without a shiny logo. I've gotten some darn good logos before, so if you are interested in creating the logo for Galleon 2, please post your samples here. (Obviously you have to give me the right to use it and since I'm cheap your only payment will be fame. :)
Comments
It should mesh with the current color scheme. See /forums here.

Hi Ray,
I've done two logo's on this, based on a galleon-flag theme.

Cheers!

Interesting work so far guys. One note - I definitely don't want "2" in the logo - and - I'm also ok with logos that don't say Galleon at all, in fact I may prefer that.

I can change that, but I do feel that this logo needs the "galleon" part, especially when used out of context (i.e. another site, powered-by logo, etc etc). It's also more of a logo you can use, instead just an image that could pertain to anything.

And another. Right, off to do some *real* work now :)

OK....I'm not a techie, but I like the very first one personally. It pops nicely.
If you're accepting 'votes' I too like the first one.

Hi Ray,
I read your blog regularly and thought that this might be a good way to try and contribute back. Here is my rough idea for the logo. I know you mentioned about not wanting the word Galleon in the logo, however I couldn't resist playing with the L's.

I like Rob Selenis the best! I think its the best idea, I believe logos should have some kind of symbolism that you can use as an icon. Mine original idea is more amateurish, it had a silhouette of a galleon and GF on the top left.
Rob's logo gets my vote (same principal of using a symbol but hundred fold better execution!).

I vote for Joel Watson's logos. It's clean, simple and modern-- Exactly what a logo should be.

I think I'm in agreement.
Quick status update: I added DBML support to Galleon 2. It took all of 2 seconds with the excellent DBML tag from DepressedPress.
Avatar support is done.
ToDo:
Add instructions for DBML.
When deleting data, update columns that store last message.
Protect Write to forums.
And lastly - some of my SQL is MySQL only, so I need to double check in SQL Server. I'd also like to consider Derby support.

Ray, this Derby? http://db.apache.org/derby/
I've never heard of it until you mentioned it and I did a quick search. I guess that shows you my ignorance.

Murat - I believe I want to go with one of your logos - but all your graphics have the box around them. Can you take set6_01.gif and remove the box? Yes I can do this in Photoshop, but I figured it would be easier for you. ;)

Murat - I think you did the wrong one. I had said 6_1, which is a black, horixzontal graphic.

You are going to hate me but... I don't remember there being a reflection on the original ones. Can you build the black boxes with no reflection?

You will hate me even more...
Murat - can you possibly make a version where the background is transparent? Also - where it has _no_ extra space around it? I want to be able to just drop it in.
Pretend like I have the graphical skills of a monkey. I can resize - that's about it.

It would be a pleasure to create a logo for you, although I'm not a real graphic designer... I bet it would be fun :)
Do you have any preferred colors?
